Julia Smolka and Maria Schwartz recently presented a program called “What Documents Every Person Needs Who is In Business” at the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce. They spoke with small business owners about what legal documents that people in business need to think about creating to not only help them succeed, but to give them peace of mind. They spoke about the importance of creating the proper corporate documents when they set up their company. They should have documents which spell out the relationships between partners and succession when partners retire or pass away. They also spoke about asset protection as well as how to properly document their contracts with their customers. They also spoke about what terms and provisions to include in an invoice to give their contracts teeth and to force clients to pay. It was a great breakfast meeting with over 30 people in attendance.
