Ryan T. Johnson concentrates his practice in the areas of construction law, professional liability and complex commercial litigation. Ryan has over 15 years of experience successfully representing clients in construction related matters in Illinois and nationally, including jury and bench trials in state and federal courts as well as in arbitration proceedings. In addition to dispute resolution, Ryan also engages in contract negotiations, contracting drafting and business counseling on behalf of clients.

  • Granted summary judgment on behalf of an architectural firm in a construction fire case with alleged damages in excess of $83 million.
  • Obtained defense verdict after trial involving breach of contract and fraud claims made against an institutional client.
  • Awarded summary judgment on behalf of a national design that matter was later settled for in excess of $6 million.
  • Negotiated a complex and favorable resolution arising out of breach of contract and professional liability allegations on behalf of a client in connection with a $400 million project.
  • Successfully argued a summary judgment motion on behalf of a national engineering firm in a matter involving the deaths of 3 people and injuries to 3.  The matter had a demand in excess of $13 million. The trial court’s ruling was later affirmed on appeal.
  • Obtained a large six-figure settlement on behalf of an owner of property that experienced significant water damage subsequent to a construction project.
  • Obtained a dismissal of a national engineering firm in a matter that later settled for three million dollars.
  • Obtained dismissal of a national engineering firm in a matter arising out of a large construction project case with claims of permanent and debilitating personal injury.
  • Obtained the dismissal of an architectural firm in a lawsuit arising out of the construction of a municipal building with alleged damages in excess of $250,000.
  • Secured the dismissal of an international engineering firm in a dispute arising out of the construction of a large residential building complex.
  • Obtained a significant financial settlement on behalf of a contractor supply company that was the victim of theft and fraud, in which the defendant met the settlement demand just prior to the jury selection.
  • Secured a dismissal with prejudice of a suit against an engineering firm accused of malpractice with respect to a land development project and alleged damages in excess of one million dollars.
  • Recovered a six-figured settlement on behalf of an Illinois healthcare company that was the victim of fraud.  The settlement was the entire amount sought.
  • In a matter involving allegations of negligence on behalf of an engineering client, Ryan was able to negotiate a settlement for less than 2% of the alleged damages.
  • Subsequent to deposing the plaintiff in a lawsuit filed against an engineering company for work on an Illinois’ toll road, Ryan was able to negotiate a settlement of less than 1% of the alleged damages.
  • Secured a settlement with the plaintiff for less than 2% of alleged damages in a lawsuit filed against an elevator contractor for personal injuries that was immediately agreed to.
  • Obtained the dismissal of a large engineering firm involved in a large downtown condominium project lawsuit with claimed damages exceeding $500,000.
  • Secured a dismissal of an engineering firm sued pursuant to a trench collapse during a municipal project.
  • Granted dismissal on behalf of a national engineering firm pursuant to a construction accident and claim of permanent disability.
