Paul S. Motin concentrates his practice in estate planning, asset protection, estate and trust administration,
guardianships, and taxation. Paul is a 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 Illinois Super Lawyers Honoree.
Paul strives to assist his clients in ways that keeps his clients involved (to the extent desired), yet in a way that minimizes their stress. With over 30 years of experience, Paul regularly represents families, business owners, investors and individuals to preserve wealth and protect assets to achieve the clients’ financial objectives over the years and then, to plan for the transfer of wealth to their children or other beneficiaries. Paul keeps the desires of the client in mind – whether that be protecting the children, tax minimization, asset protection, or charitable endeavors.
Paul also works with families in the event of an incapacity – by creating Special Needs Trusts and, when necessary, establishing Guardianships to protect the personal and financial well-being of a disabled person.
Paul’s extensive knowledge and skills, combined with his professionalism in working with clients, other attorneys, and the Courts, allow others to have confidence in him as he handles each matter. Always active in his communities, Paul served as a City Councilmember for Elk River, Minnesota, for 16 years (as well as the Economic Development Authority and the Housing & Redevelopment Authority) and has been active with the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club. Paul continues to be involved with his college fraternity, Sigma Tau Gamma, and has served for many years as a trustee of Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation, Inc., a multi-million dollar §501(c)(3) educational foundation.
Paul is the Co-Chair of the Firm’s Trusts & Estates Practice.
